Persimon® Persimmons

I was invited to take part in the 2015 Persimon® blogger challenge. How can I say no to food? But most importantly, I enjoy eating persimmons and was intrigue to learn more about them.

Have you guys tried persimmons before? Do you like them? Before this challenge, I only knew of Hachiya persimmons - the kind that must be consumed when they turn soft and ripen. I had no idea that there were different types. Also, I've learned that persimmons is a seasonal fruit with limited quantities - only available from November through January. Thanks for introducing me to Persimon® persimmons. They're so delicious!

This is one of the possible cases in which Persimon® may be packaged. Look for either the
Bouquet or Mondo in Blu boxes. They are often sold in cases because most people buy in quantity
and, well, it is hard to eat just one.

First, let me share some details with you about Persimon® persimmons:
• Persimon® was trademarked as a brand in order to distinguish it features from other persimmons. Persimon® is ripe and ready to eat when firm and do not need to be ripened.
• Persimon® persimmons are grown exclusively in the Ribera del Xuquer Valley near Valencia, Spain.
• Persimon® are sweet with a delicate flavour similar to cantalope, peach or mango
• They are seedless, pitless and no peeling is required.
• They contain six grams of fibre per fruit - double the amount of fibre found in a peach, banana or orange.
• Persimon® is a good source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C and is a high antioxidants. Rich in fibre, it contains potassium, magnesium and manganese, minerals that contribute to the maintenance of good health.
• At the store, look for bright orange skin that is firm to the touch. Sometimes it may be speckled with natural sugar freckles, which appear as the fruit is ripens (just like bananas). These freckles are a sign of extra sweetness.

Yes, you read right - Persimon® are READY TO EAT! Do not need to be
ripened like other persimmons. They are ripe when firm!

Some ways to enjoy Persimon® persimmons (that you may never thought of):
• Persimon® wedges of slices can be added to cereal, yogurt or ice cream, or make a sweet topping for a salad. It is also perfect in a chutney to accompany different meals.
• Persimon® are a convenient, easy snack for children.
• Eat it fresh out of hand, just like an apple!

Now, back to the blogger challenge. We were asked to use the amazing and unique fruit,  Persimon® persimmons in a recipe. We received a list of recipes, and I decided to try the Persimon® Wrapped in Serrano Ham with Manchego and Watercress, hors d'oeuvre that's refreshing and refined. They would be perfect for one of my many gatherings this Holiday season!

Ingredients for my recipe.

Check out the pics below to see how it went. You guys should definitely give this recipe a try. It was pretty easy, however, wrapping them may take some time, but I had fun making them! Most importantly, they were delicious and my family loved them. The sweet, juicy flavour of the Persimon® pairs perfectly with the richness of the Manchego and the peppery watercress.

Ingredients for 12 pieces:
• Sereno Ham - 6 slices
• Persimmons, cut into 12 wediges - 1
• Watercress - 1/2 cup (125 ml)
• Manchego Cheese, sliced into 12 equal pieces - 1/3 cup (75 ml)
Method:
• Cut Serrano ham in half lengthwise. Place a Persimon® wedge on top of a strip of ham.
• Place a few pieces of watercress on one side of the Persimon®. Add one piece of cheese on top of the watercress and wrap.

Doesn't these looks great? : )

Very happy with the final product!
