Yesterday was Earth Day, hope everyone did their part to celebrate our planet we call Earth. And hopefully it won't stop and that you will continue to help out the environment everyday.
One way you might not had thought about is that your unwanted clothes can do more than you think. One of my favourite retail store H&M started an initiative to collect clothes in their stores. It started about a month ago, and is part of its Conscious actions - For a more sustainable fashion future.
I really like the idea. Plus, you get rewarded when you bring in your unwanted clothes to H&M stores. You get one voucher for $5 off your purchase of $30 or more for each of bag clothing you donate.
If you've got something worn, torn or out of style, don't throw it away or let it pile up in the back of your closet. Bring them in, and help decrease the amount of fashion being wasted. Your clothes are then sent to the nearest processing plant. The clothes are then graded and hand-sorted. Items that are too worn or torn to be reused will be recycled and turned into raw materials and new products.
An interesting facts: Every year, tons of textiles end up in landfills. But as much as 95% of these textiles and clothes could be used again.
So, start digging through your closet and see how much you can donate. Look out for the drop off 'Long Live Fashion' box by the cash in the store. For more info about this great initiative and how it works, you can go here.
While you're at the store, make sure to check out their Conscious Collection plus there are many items that are made from recycled materials ie. 100% organic cotton. Look out for a H&M Conscious* tag on those items. Long live fashion!
