McDonalds Reflective Billboard

Check out this very cool billboard created by Vancouver-based ad agency Cossette for McDonalds.

The billboard appears blank in daylight, but after dark it will illuminate by headlights from cars driving by it. The phase "Open all night" along with the golden arches are formed with reflective tape which will then lights up.

What a great idea to remind people that McDonalds is open no matter the time - 24 hrs. Check out the video to see how the billboard comes together. Like McD's tagline - I'm loving it!

Potato Chip Container AND a Bowl?!

Attention all chips lover out there (me included)!! Check out this - a potato chip container that double up as a bowl!

What a great idea! Chip-snackers will understand, no matter how small your hands - it's hard to reach into the container when your chip level are getting low.

This very smart packaging was created by a Korean designer Dohyuk Kwon and his team. It's called 'Bloom Chip'. Like a blooming flower, it blooms into a bowl when opened - a great party must-have!

I think Pringle should definitely look into this (award winner design) and contact the creator asap!!

Instagram = US$1 Billion

I'm sure you all heard: Instagram, a mobile photo-sharing app was bought by Facebook for 1 billion dollars! I wonder what will Facebook do with it - hopefully not too many changes.

For those who's not familliar with Instagram:
It’s a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your photos with friends and family. Snap a picture, choose a filter to transform its look and feel, then post to Instagram. Share to Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr too – it's as easy as pie. It's photo sharing, reinvented.

FYI - Instagram only started up 17 months ago and is now worth a billion dollars?! So crazy!

I'm a fan of it and started using it about 4 months ago. (btw - my profile pic to the right is an Instagram) I am loving it! It's fun - sharing your pics, picking a filter to match your image, being creative and it can sometimes turn your not so good pics into better one - who doesn't like that? I will share some of my instagram pics in the next posting.

Check out this Instagram Timeline Infographic created by Visually. Lots of interesting facts of how it progress to its current position.

In the infographic ‘Instagram: The Timeline’, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger raised US$500,000 to fund their app in March 2010.

In November 2010, the app was released in Apple’s app store.

In December 2010, the Instagram community hit 1 million users.

Hashtags were then added in January 2011—for people to discover photos or each other.

In June 2011, the number of users hit 5 million.

In August 2011, the 150 millionth photo uploaded onto the app.

A month thereafter, live filters, tilt-shift effects, and high-res photo options were added.

In September 2011, the community hit 10 million Instagram users.

In April this year, the app released Android version of its app, which hit 1 million downloads in a day; and got the app 30 million users altogether—which then brings us to Facebook buying Instagram for US$1 billion.

Skype's Ad Campaign Slams Twitter and Facebook

Check out these ads from Skype's latest branding campaign (outdoor print ads and online). Great headlines - I just love them!

The campaign is called "It's Time For Skype". They're very simple looking and just feature a headline that go against social networking sites Twitter and Facebook. All the lines are so true! With technology to help connect us, communication is becoming easier than ever, but far less human. Who's guilty of not communicating 'face-to-face'.

Which one's your favourite?

Joe Fresh 510 Fifth Ave Flagship Store

Take a look at Joe Fresh newest store in the Big Apple - New York's Fifth Avenue!

It's 14,000 square feet, two storeys, a glass-walled heritage building designated a landmark by the city of New York is now converted into Joe Fresh's flagship store.

Check out some pics of the store, more pics here. It looks very nice! A very clean look, nice decors, and lots of mannequins everywhere! Why can't they make locations in Toronto look like that?! Looking forward to checking it out in person when I visit NYC.

Tiny Billboards made of LEGO

Bet you haven't seen anything like this - the tiniest billboards ever - made of LEGO!! Very neat and what a fun idea. Created by agency DLKW Lowe.

To promote the LEGOLAND Windsor resort in England, tiny billboards made of LEGO were created and installed all over London.

They were 12 inches in height. And to interact with the public, it was encouraged that passersby tweet photos of the boards with the hashtag #legolandminibreaks if they spotted one.

My thoughts on Bully

Last night I was lucky enough to attend an advance screening of the documentary film Bully. The director, Lee Hirsch was also there, which was pretty cool. He and a group of panelists spoke and answered questions at the end of the film.

Bully follows a year in the life of American’s bullying crisis through five kids and their families. The film offered insight into the often-cruel world of children, as teachers/administrators and parents struggle to find answers to stop bullying.

It's a great and very powerful movie. An important film, I think EVERYONE needs to see - especially schools and families. I really hope that this film will bring more attention to the issue of bullying. As one of the panelist pointed out which I agree, the film will definitely be a ‘conversation starter’, a much-needed first step.

Bully opens Friday April 6 at Varsity Cinemas.
