Marni at H&M - the collection

Very exciting.... the Marni collection for H&M was revealed! Check out the ladies collection with prices here, and the men's here. For more info about this collaboration, check out my earlier posting here.

The men's collection looks good. I'm curious how they will fit, from the images it looks like the tops are very loose fitting. I'm more into the fitted style - but it's Marni, so I will make it work on me : )

A few items that I'm interested in are no surprise, the graphic t-shirts, some of the shirts/top, and accessories; the tote bag and sunglasses.

So great to see Gap and Threadless working together to bring very cool t-shirt designs to a much bigger audience. Threadless for those who don't know - is an online community that makes t-shirts designed by people like you.

I am a big graphic t-shirt fan = I love Threadless! I think I own more than 15 Threadless Ts!

I'm sure you guys heard about Jeremy Lin. Even me, who's not a big NBA fan know who he is. Being the first Asian-American NBA player, the 23 years old Harvard graduate led the New York Knicks on a winning streak.

Check out the latest Jeremy merchandise from Nike. I'm sure we will be seeing more endorsements. Whatever it is, I'm sure they will be in high demand.

The Grid - Best designed newspaper in the world

Congrat's to The Grid! When I first picked you up back in May 2011, I knew I was reading, according to me, not only something special but also a very 'good looking' newspaper : )

For those who doesn't know: The Grid is a Toronto-focused weekly arts, news and culture newspaper. It was formally Eye Weekly. It comes out every Thursday - and it's FREE!

The Grid was recently named the world's best designed newspaper for their circulation size by the Society of News Design. They recognizes excellence in visual journalism. I think it's pretty cool and a big deal for a publication that's not even a year old to be recognize for this award.

Here's what the panel of judges had to say about The Grid:

The more time you spend with this guerrilla guide, the more “good shit” shows up. The engaged writing, smart editing and heavy research is done in a young, sophisticated voice and executed while obviously having great fun. The design is minimalistic and the cool, restrained and exclusive fonts are Tiempo for body copy, and the logo face and display fonts are Fakt.

What really makes this publication a different visual experience for the reader are the many tiny informative graphic details throughout the pages. It must be extremely time-consuming doing these pages, but it works so well for the reader. Specific keywords are highlighted with yellow; small locator maps show where to find the spot mentioned in the presentation; on one page appears a visual guide on how to dress “Dad-rock” style, supplemented with the ruthless caption “Facial hair is not necessary, but always appreciated.” Another fine detail is the hand-drawn portraits on the bylines. All these details could make the paper a mess — but it’s not. The overall look is perfectly consistent and clean.

The Grid also surprises with sparse but great inside photography on full spreads. Our favorite was the fantastic photo of a line at a hotdog stand — and the photo goes on through four straight pages. This is a wonderful surprise for the reader.

This publication really catches you and it will not let you go. Any big city with respect for itself should get a “good shit” guerrilla guide like this. Right now.
I couldn't agree more with them - every point!!

I am a big fan! I pick it up every Thursday morning on my way to work. I always look forward to seeing what the cover's going to look like. I love the content/stories - always very informative/interesting. I love the clean layout and all those tiny informative graphics (I learn so much from it). I love that there are so many colour photographs - it sometime feels like I'm flipping through a magazine. As a designer myself, I really appreciate all the details throughout the pages! Lovely job - keep it up!

One of my favourite sections: Street Level - Asking people on the street a question. I always wish I would be approach by a staff from The Grid when I am in the city. I would love to be in an issue and be a part of an award winning newspaper : )

Diesel Spring Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

I was flipping through a fashion magazine recently and got a bit excited when I saw the latest ad from my favourite, Diesel! I quickly went online to check out the rest of the campaign.

After Be Stupid and Diesel Island (past season campaigns), Diesel is back in the studio. The Spring Summer 2012 ad campaign was photographed by Mert & Marcus.

I've always love Diesel's advertisements - their concept, visual and imagery are just the best. And they didn't disappoint this season. The campaign tag line is: Portraits For Successful Living. This time around the campaign seems to be a play on misproportion - models pose with oversized and miniature props. Diesel, like other of their past campaigns likes to have fun and doesn't take themselves too serious.

The images are so beautifully captured and quite amusing .... loved them!!

I also have to point out - there's an ASAIN model!! lol (not very often do you see that)

Her name is Liu Wen and is currently ranked No. 6 in the fashion world. She recently walked the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion show - the very first Asian model to do so!! Very cool!!

Incase - Spring 2012

I'm really liking what Incase is offering for all our gadgets. I currently already own an Incase iphone case and laptop sleeve. I'm definitely looking into adding to my Incase collection. Incase's stuff are not only very cool looking but more importantly their product protect's your stuff! It's tag line says it all: A better experience through good design.

The latest series of bags from the Spring 2012 _Anywhere campaign is the Terra Collection. It come in two colours - Powder Grey and Blue Denim. There is the Campus Packs, Tote Bags and laptop sleeves.

I really like the Campus Packs (the blue denim with the cool orange lining inside) I especially like all the separate compartments for the accessories, ie. battery charger, mouse, etc...

Love these products! They let users carry their possessions easily and letting creavtivity to take place anywhere.

Marni at H&M

Another designer collaboration with H&M is coming up very soon... March 8, 2012 to be exact.

The new collaboration is with the Italian brand Marni. The founder and creative director Consuelo Castiglioni has created a Spring collection for both women and men. The collection will features both clothing and accessories. The collection will feature "all-over prints in strong colours all intended to be worn together in layers that both match and clash."

"For women, the colours are vivid and the prints are bold, African inspired or simpler colour blocks. The Silouettes are all Marni staples, with full pleated skirts, dresses, cropped trousers and jacquard knit, and fabrics range from silk to crisp cotton poplin. To finish the complete look the collection also includes jewellery, shoes bags and scarves."

"And for the men, the colours and fabrics are softened for a relaxed take on menswear staples that is truly Marni. The use of print is subtle, often as a lining or as a contrast detail for shirts, the silhouette a modern and relaxed take on masculine classics."

Valentine's Day is fast approaching- check out these very cute watches from Swatch - a perfect gift for your loved one. There's the red one 'Catch My Heart' and the pink one 'Lovely Mine'.

I really like the fun and simple illustration on them. They are about $60 US each. Happy Heart day!

David Beckham Bodywear launches & arrival at H&M!

If you're a fan of H&M and their collaborations like I am, I'm sure you know - David Beckham's Bodywear collection is now in store! Check out the collection here. The prices ranges from $14.95 (Briefs) to $39.95 (Long Johns). I've already picked up some stuff : )

I have a feeling this long term partnership with H&M will do very well. With its mass-targeted price point and allowing everybody to have a bit of Beckham = really good idea, a no brainer for H&M. When David did a campaign with Armani underwear from 2007-2009, he doubled Armani's sales!

The collection sold exclusively at H&M will develop seasonally with new styles, new fabrics and new pattern. I'm already looking forward to it.....

Movie: Man on a Ledge

I know, first thing that comes to mind: what an odd title for a movie, thinking it won't be any good. But don't judge the movie by its title.

I was lucky enough to win advance passes to go check out this movie about 3 weeks ago, thanks to Entertainment One. It comes out this weekend.

Man on a Ledge stars Sam Worthington along with some strong supporting cast, like Jamie Bell ( the boy from Billy Elliot). I wasn't expecting a lot going into the theatre, thinking cheesy title = a not so good movie, however I was wrong. I actually really enjoyed the movie! It had a good story and was very entertaining! It was funny at times, and exciting - kept me on the 'Ledge' of my seat : ) Worth checking out!

CB2 arrives in Toronto!

To be honest I had no idea what CB2 was all about ( I can't believe it), until recently. After learning more about CB2, I'm very excited about it and looking forward to checking out the store very soon.

CB2 - aka Crate and Barrel's little sister, just opened their first Canadian store in Toronto at Queen and Bathurst - 651Queen St. West. FYI - Coming to Vancouver very soon.

I've always like cool/interesting looking furnitures and décor not to mention an interest in interior design. CB2 will definitely be a great place to check out to get some inspirations.

It carries affordable modern stuff for apartment, loft and home. Mmm, kinda like the very popular Ikea?

You can pick up the latest The Grid newspaper (which I love and pick up every Thursday-it's FREE) where a CB2 catalogue is inserted inside.

Check out some of their cool offering. I love it! Budget-friendly has never looked so good.

DC Comic's New Logo!

I'm not really a big comic book reader - however I am a fan of the super heroes; Spiderman, Superman and Batman are among my favourite.

DC Comics has released a new logo! It will be deployed in March 2012.

The new identity was designed by Landor. They explained "It was our goal to capture DC Entertainment in a dynamic and provocative identity. Our solution is a living expression which changes and adapts to the characters, story lines and the ways fans are consuming content. The new identity is built for the digital age, and can easily be animated and customized to take full advantage of the interactivity offered across all media platforms."

The new logo uses a "peel" effect. The D is strategically placed over the C with the upper right-hand portion of the D peeling back to unveil the hidden C - symbolizing the duality of the iconic characters that are present within the DC Entertainment's portfolio.

I love the concept! I do prefer it more when the logo adapt to fit the distintive brands and characters - much more interesting and alive than the boring black and white rendition.

What do you guys think? Overall, yes, it's a pretty simple looking, but I don't mind it.

Monster X Diesel Headphones

I am a big fan of Diesel. Their latest venture definitely got my attention.

What an interesting match-up indeed - Diesel collaborating with Monster Cable on a Vektr On-Ear Headphones! You might heard of Beats by Dr. Dre who was working with Monster Cable (which was how I first learned about Monster Cable), but recently announced that they did not renew their contract with them, ending a 5 year partnership.

Chinese new year is coming up soon - January 23, 2012. It will be the year of the Dragon, one of the most lively and colorful signs of the Chinese animal zodiac, and is the key symbol of Chinese Spirit.

The very fashionable watch company Swatch is coming out with The Year of the Dragon limited edition watch! It features an intricate and graceful Chinese dragon in blue on white ground of the silicone strap, taking inspiration from classic Chinese-style blue and white porcelain. It also comes in a special packaging.

Check out the latest designs/creations from Umbra (which I love), there's the arrow swivel wall hook and the arrow door hook.

Both designed by Tracy Wong. Her inspiration for the wall hook:

"The arrow symbol is engrained in our human nature: from ancient drawings to modern wayfinding. David Beckham for H&M Ad Campaign

Check out the ad campaign for David Beckham's Bodywear line collaboration with H&M. No surprise here, as David himself is the model for the campaign.

The collection includes briefs, boxers, vests, t-shirts, pyjamas and long johns, all for men. This will be a long-term partnership between David Beckham and H&M. Designed by David's in-house team: the focus is on fit, function, comfort and design.

Apparently, the collection was a result of eighteen months of research and development. This collection aims to set a new standard in men's bodywear for the 21st century. (Wow - some serious bodywear : )

And I also heard that the television commercial for this campaign will be shown during the superbowl.

Just in time for Valentine's, the first collection will be available February 2, 2012.

My Versace for H&M Shopping Experience

Not sure if anyone else went to the Versace for H&M today but I was there! Yeah, I was one of those 'crazy fashion people', but I don't think I am 'that crazy' like some who set up tents and waited over night.

I went to the Yorkdale location. I was there around 6:30 am (the store opens at 8 am). For some reason, we had to wait outside the mall. I was told that there was about 150 people inside lining up already. Good thing it wasn't too cold and that it was only for about 20 mins, we then got to go in and joined the line up. It was pretty organized, so that was a good thing.

In the line, we were then given wrist band (only if you were shopping the women's collection) with our shopping time slot along with a shopping instruction. Even though I wasn't shopping the women's collection, I still had to get one.

Since I was only shopping the men's collection, I got myself into the store at around 8:15am. It was a bit hectic, but lots of security all around to keep things under control - you know how us, crazy shoppers can get - lol. Unlike last year, during the Lavin collection, posters were knocked down and people were undressing the mannequins.

Overall, I was happy with my Versace shopping experience : ) Got most of the stuff that I wanted plus more! Good thing there's a 14 days return policy, since I'm thinking of bringing back some of those 'impluse/changed my mind' buys.

For those whose interesting in owning some Versace, let me know asap. The items I will be returning are: t-shirt (Small), pair of black tailored trouser (waist 32R), and a pair of black leather shoes (size 9)

Versace For H&M - Men's Collection

Versace for H&M will be available this Saturday, November 19th. FYI- only 2 locations in Toronto, The Eaton Centre and Yorkdale. This latest designer collaboration is getting lots of attention - well, it's Versace!

The collection is inspired by classic Versace prints and detailing. Each pieces will feature one of Versace's signature touches, including gold studs, extravagant pattern, optical prints, and Versace's classical Greek pattern.

You can check out the whole collection here .

Eventhough I do find some of the men's collection a little too 'out there' for my style/taste, for example the pink suit?! However, I'm still excited about the collection : ) Who doesn't want to own a piece of Versace in their closet?

Here are some of the items that will be on my list ..... I'm more into the accessories and t-shirts department.

Not sure if you guys seen or heard about this - but I think it might be going viral very soon. I first saw it last week on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, which btw, the little girl will be on the show sometime this week.

I already liked Nicki Minaj's 'Super Bass' song, but after seeing it sung by this little one, I think I like it even more!

Her name is Sophia Grace, who's 8 years old. Check it out - she's too cute!!

This is such an unusal sight - models dancing.... I saw this video on my friends Jackie's Blog (must check out) and just thought that I must share it on my blog : )

The video is for Lavin's Fall/Winter 2011 Ad campaign. It's funny to watch since you normally see fashion models very serious. But here, you see them dancing/having a good time to the music of Pitbull's I know you want me. What a great and fresh idea to show off the new line of clothing - love it!

Deep Fried Cola & Donut Burger!!??

That's right, I was brave enough (and curious) to try them both.

Looking for everything deep-fried? The Canadian National Exhibition is the place to find them! Last year's craze was the Deep Fried Butter, but this year's is the Deep Fried Cola. Plus, also the Krispy Kreme Burger is getting a lot of attention.

I was very interested in the Deep Fried Cola ($6 for a cup) - thinking how do they fried coke?? Being curious, I must try it. I saw them making it. It's like, cola was mixed in with batter, and then dropped in oil. Here are some pics - yeah, it doesn't look that appealing. It didn't really taste like cola, and I found it had very little flavour. Will I try it again? No thanks!

I also tried the 1,500 calorie Donut Burger. That's right - it's like a cheeseburger with Krispy Kreme donuts for buns! ( $8 or $10 with egg and bacon) I actually really enjoyed it!! I liked the taste of the sweetness of the donuts mixed with the burger was surprisingly very yummy : ) I would definitely have it again. FYI - I didn't eat the whole thing, shared it and just had half of it = only 750 calorie. Here are some pics, enjoy!!

Check out this poster for the movie The Ides of March, coming out this Fall.

Not really sure what's it all about, but the poster caught my attention. Very nicely designed - simple with a strong visual - what a neat idea! Looks like a great cast too!! With both Ryan Gosling and George Clooney on the poster, does it really matter what the movie is about?! lol

I'm not a big fan of movies about politics, but with that cast, people will definitely go see it. I have a feeling it might even get some Oscar nominations.

A very cool collection for sure - that's right, David Beckham and H&M !!

David Beckham will work with H&M to make his eagerly awaited new Bodywear line for men to be available in 1800 stores in around 40 countries. This will mark the beginning of a significant relationship with a long-term distribution partnerhsip between H&M and David Beckham. New Bodywear products will be launch seasonally. The first range will be launching to coincide with Valentine's Day 2012 from February 2nd.

I'm looking forward to it - what kind of Bodywear products will be offer? will it just be underwears? Will he be the face of the ad campaign? I guess we will just have to wait and see...

Crazy, Stupid, Love - Posters

Have you seen the posters for the movie Crazy, Stupid, Love? I've seen it in bus shelters all over the city. They caught my attention - I really like how they have different ones, one for each of the words in the title.

I'm not really sure what the movie is about, but heard some pretty good reviews. Also, looks like a great cast too - I will probably go check this one out!

I'm not too crazy of the Main one - do they really have to put all the actor's pics on it? Favourite is the 'Stupid' one. Grown men acting like kids = funny!

Kidrobot X Swatch

I love watches and toys from Kidrobot . So, I was pretty excited when I read about this collaboration! A collection of 8 very cool watches - that comes with a 3" Dunny. The artists that contributed to this cute collection are Frank Kozik, Jeremyville, MAD, Tilt, Tara McPherson, SSUR, Gary Basmen and Joe Ledbetter.

I actually had a chance to check out the Kidrobot store while I was in New York. A very cool store, didn't wanted to leave, lol. Picked up a couple t-shirts (no surprise) and some keychains.

This collection is currently available at Swatch stores. They're all so cool, fun and colourful - I want them all!!

Big on Bloor Festival

Looking for a summer event to attend?? Make sure to check out the Big on Bloor Festival happening Saturday, July 23 from 1-9pm. Dufferin to Landsdowne on Bloor will be closed to traffic and filled with hundreds of vendors with lots of great deals. There will also be performers and entertainment. Lots to do, see and eat!

Another reason why you should go check it out is that I will be there!! I will be a vendor there with a table selling my Hello! stuff . It will be my forth year participating in this fun festival. For the past 3 years - unfortunately, it rained. So I am crossing my fingers that it won't this year. I really hope that the nice weather we are having now, the sun and heat (which I am loving) will stretched into next weekend : )

Went for Summerlicious last weekend! A Moroccan restaurant called Café Moroc . A wondrerful environment, very good food, great service, and only $15 for lunch, what more can you ask for?! Definitely worth checking out!

Well, I started my own line of graphic t-shirts and accessories in late 2006 called Hello! stuff. It all started out with t-shirts and then grew to include buttons, magnets, greeting cards, tote bags, notebook, and most recently ties!

Ties! I hand silk screen printed them myself!!

The reason it began with graphic t-shirts was due to my love for them, I have TONS! I can pretty much wear a different T each day, for like, half of the year!! (I know - it's crazy!) I figured, it would be so cool if I have my own collection of Ts with my own design - even cooler if I see stranger's wearing them! I've always like to be a fashion designer - so I guess, this is pretty close : )

Very cool - my dream car, Mini Cooper is coming out with a sneaker! Part of the Mini Lifestyle Collection for Fall 2011- High-top design, featuring the red, white, and blue of Union Jack.

Versace for H&M!

Have you heard? H&M's next designer collaboration will be Versace! Designed by its creative director Donatella Versace, the collection will include stuff for women, men and pieces for the home.

The womenswear collection will include of mostly dresses, featuring studded leather, silk and colourful print, with accessories including high heels and jewellery. There will be about 40 pieces in total.

The men's collection will focus on sharp tailoring, including "the perfect tuxedo", with accessories that includes belts and jewellery. There will be about 20 pieces.

And for the first time in a designer collaboration, there will be homeware pieces - cushions and bedspreads. (interesting....)

I can't wait to see the items that will be available for the men's! I'm hoping for some graphic t-shirts and sunglasses : )

Mark your calendar - the collection will be available in selected stores November 17, 2011. I just hope that it will be available in more locations this time around, unlike the Lavin collection, where only Yorkdale and Eaton Centre got it.

FiveFingers Shoes

I'm sure you guys know by now, I love shoes. Especially unique looking ones. When I heard about these, it definitely got my attention.

They are called Vibram FiveFingers . Have you guys heard about them? I heard about them early this year, and just had to track them down. I got my pair a couple months ago from Mountain Equipment Co-op.

I got myself the KOS style (Voted "Most Popular" for its versatility). Doesn't it look cool?! lol. Looks like gorilla/some kind of alien feet, right? That was my first impression of them.

How the FiveFingers works? The design suppose to make your feet healthier by allowing them to move more naturally and freely. They were named by Time magazine's best invention in 2007. Read more about them here .

I have yet to wear them out. But having them on my feet, does feel a little odd - having all your toes separated. Will for sure need some time to get use to. However I have actually seen people wearing them! One time at the gym and another at the mall.

Rethink - No Tankers Oil Poster

Check out this very neat poster idea from Rethink. It is for the Dogwood Initiative's No Tankers project, which endeavours to keep oil tankers out of British Columbia's coastal waters.

Using a water-soluble ink, they created these "leaking" posters. Very cool - love it!

Beyonce 2011 Billboard Awards Performance

I really enjoyed Beyonce's performances on the Billboard Awards this past weekend. She performed her new single Run the World (Girls).

I thought it was such a great idea and looked sooo cool when she was performing with a video projection. And also when so many dancers came on stage towards the end. It was definitely the highlight of the show.

Tiny apartment transforms into 24 rooms!

I've always have an interest in architect in interior design. This story is so inspiring!

Gary Chang, an architect, designed his 344 square foot apartment in Hong Kong to be able to change into 24 different designs, all by just sliding panels and walls.

He calls it the "Domestic Transformer". Not only did he take space-innovation to an entirely new level it's also eco-friendly!

Have you guys heard what Levi's is doing? They created the Water<Less Jeans! Jeans that reduce the amount of water while making the jeans. This allows them to use an average of 28% less and as much as 96% less water for some products in their line. A jeans with a cause: save millions of liters of water and distribute it to those who need it most. Very nice!!

My Thoughts on Fast Five

Fast Five was great!! All the original cast are back; Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, plus a few new people; Dwayne Johnson. Being the fifth one, which takes place in Rio, it didn't disappoint. The storyline was solid, eventhough there wasn't too many 'racing' scenes, the action sequences was done really well. Lots of energy and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The chasing scene, when the two cars were dragging a vault through the city was CRAZY!

Just a heads up, make sure to stay a bit after the end credits. Looks like there's going to be a six!! Can't wait!!

Diesel X Adidas Originals Sneaker Collection

I was so excited when I found out that my two favourite brands are working together again; Diesel and Adidas! After collaborating for a special denim collection in 2008, this year they are doing sneakers!

However, I was a little disappointed. While doing some research about this, I found out that the collection had already been launched since January 20th of this year. The five styles were available exclusively at the Toronto and Montreal Diesel flagship stores, with only 10,000 pairs available globally.

oh well, still worth blogging about : ) and will try to drop by the Toronto location to see if there's any left.

Here are the five limited edition classic Adidas styles re-designed by Diesel. I love and want them all! : )

This one features a double tongue that can be unzipped diagonally to reveal
Diesel's iconic Mohican head logo and sturdy metal studs - very cool!!

This one goes punk with metal studs and Diesel denim rivets trace out Adidas' 3-Stripes.
The shoe comes in two colours, this chocolate and white below.

I love how the back has the 2 different logos!

Baking a Pie?

Too bad I don't really bake, but I do love eating pies! However I guess I can try it with this very cool designed 'Pie Crust 101' parchment paper!

This was created by one of favourite Canadian ad agency, Rethink. It was done to promote classes at the Pastry Training Centre of Vancouver.

My Thoughts on Rio

Rio, which btw was at the number one spot of the box office for two weeks in a row, was a fun movie. Definitely worth checking out if you like animated movies. Rio was done by the people who made Ice Age.

It was a nice and simple storyline with some great voices; Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, will.i.am, and Jamie Foxx, just to name a few.

There are some very beautiful and colourful sceneries - looks like the real thing eventhough it's all animated. Makes you want to go to Rio for your next vacation! There are also some great fun and upbeat music. I especially like the ones during the end credits.

Overall, a great movie for the whole family!

Diet Pepsi's New Commercial

I am a fan of the Scream movies - so, no question I had to go see the forth installment. After almost 11 years since the very first one, this forth one was pretty good. I really enjoyed it and the story line was surprisingly not bad ( you figured, what else can they come up with after the 3rd one? but they did) It was very entertaining, fun, and this time around, a lot more stabbings and blood!

All the original cast are back, Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox along with creator, writer Kevin Williamson. Btw, even though it had been more than 11 years, they all still looks the same, maybe even younger, if that's even possible - lol. There are also a whole bunch of young ones added to the line up; Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, Hayden Panettiere, just to name a few.

Overall, Scream 4 was a good movie. Some jumpy and funny moments. I like how it kept you guessing as to who is the ghostface all the way to the end of the movie, and will the original cast member survive or become a victim? Well, you will just have to go watch and find out. I also wonder, will there be a 5th one???

American Eagle Outfitters is now carrying lots of accessories. So many, they decided to have a mini shop called 'AEO Accessory Shop'. I went to one of their location, and you can find the Accessory Shop towards the back of the store. Not that AE never carried accessories, but now there are just more selections, plus lots of new items.

There are watches, jewelries, sunglasses, wallets, bags, lots of foot wears, games, books and even headphones. You can check out the collection here. The AEO Accessory Shop is really nicely merchandised - definitely worth the trip. Lot's of stuff to check out!

The collection available for women, men and children is made from environmentally-adapted and greener materials such as:

Adidas - "All Adidas" Ad Campaign

Have you guys seen what is said to be Adidas' biggest advertisement campaign today? It stars David Beckham, Lionel Messi, NBA star Derrick Rose, and (what caught my attention) pop star Katy Perry.

It's called the "All Adidas" campaign because, says the company, it "shows that when you love the game,whatever the game you put your all into it." It was directed by Romain Gavras, who has shot many music videos.

A member of the executive board responsible for Adidas' Global Brands says, " All Adidas is the biggest campaign we have ever executed. It's creative concept brings together the diversity of the brand under one strong roof. From the court to the catwalk, the stadium to the street, we are giving an authentic statement with credibility that only Adidas has."

I saw this advertisement poster hanging from a Second Cup when I was at Vaughan Mills - and I just had to take a pic of it and share it. Looks like there's some competitions between the two coffee chains. I love the headline and the concept, "It's Time for a Change". The message is so true and gave me a chuckle when I read it.

Sorry Second Cup, great job on the ad - however I still prefer Starbucks : )

Salad King - Now Open!

Not sure if you heard, Thai food lovers, but Salad King is back! They reopened at a new location about a month and a half ago. The new location is not too far from it's old one, just across the street, 340 Yonge Street, above the Foot Locker. I went and checked it out this past weekend, check out the pics I took.

It was a nice, simple, open - new setting. I love the colourful murals as you walk up the stairs to the restaurant. I like the slightly open kitchen idea. The cafeteria style seating are back - which I'm not too crazy about- personally, I don't like sitting too close to strangers. I also find it hard to have a conversation without hearing the other's, plus kinda feels like some one's looking over your shoulder when you're eating. There are some booth seating and tables along the windows. The services was very good - friendly and fast. Our cups was always refilled with water without being asked - very good when you're eating some spicy food. The food was great - good portions at a reasonable price!

Welcome back Salad King! I will definitely be back - will try to get one of those booth seating next time : )

Havaianas now makes shoes!! They just launched a line of unisex sneakers and espadrilles. You can check out the whole collections here . The insoles are made of they comfy flip flops, cool eh?! I love the colours! I also like the mini flip flop they added to the lance- a cute touch.

I've always like what they do with their print advertising - always so colourful and fun looking! Here's one they created for the 'Soul Collection'.

H&M's Fashion Against Aids Collection will be available in store April 26! 25% of the sales will be donated to the charity Designer Against Aids and various other international HIV/AIDs prevention projects. I love it when retailer does these special collections. It gives people like me an excuse to shop - lol, since it is going to a great cause : ) This year's collections' idea is a pretty interesting one. Real-Life Version of The Animated Film 'UP'

I love the animated movie Up. After watching it, it made me wonder if it's possible: to take a whole bunch of helium balloons, tight it to my home and fly somewhere??

The people at National Geographic tried it and it worked!! So cool!! It was actually done in part of a new National Geographic Channel series called How Hard Can it Be?, which will premiere in fall 2011.

A team of scientists, engineers and world-class balloon pilots successfully launched a 16'x16' house 18' tall with 8' coloured weather balloons and set a new world record for the largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted. 300 helium balloons were used! The lightweight building reached more than 3000m and remained in the air for about an hour.

Movie poster: Trainspotting turns 15 years old!

I've always have a great interest in movie posters: the creation, design, and the thought behind of what is usually called 'the one sheet'. Today, I came across this story: The Trainspotting movie poster turn 15 years old this month. The very popular, often copied, Helvetica-used poster was created by Mark Blamire and Rob O'Connor. I'm a fan of it too!

Starbucks New Identity!

To celebrate Starbucks' 40th anniversary, the company celebrated with a new logo - a 'starbucks' less Starbucks logo. I've blogged about this before, you can read here. And now, the day is here! Check out their new cups, cup holders (which btw, I love the 2 tone green) and shopping bags in pics below. As part of the anniversary, they also introduced some new products: a coffee blend, called Tribute, and a range of sweet snacks called Petites.

I am not really a big soft drink drinker myself, but that doesn't mean that I won't blog about it. Diet Pepsi will be releasing a "taller, new Skinny Can'. The new can will be more than 6" in height.

There will be a big marketing program around it too. Ads will not only promote the can by also convey the idea of "getting the skinny" or the inside scoop on the latest in culture, fashion, style and design. The new skinny can was actually debuted a couple weeks ago at New York's Fall Fashion week where they were an official sponsor. The can was presented as a fashion item and handed out to the trendsetting crew that frequents the runway shows. Which I think was such a smart idea. What a perfect event to introduce this product?!

The new diet pepsi skinny can will hit stores this month. What do you think of it?

Joe Fresh - Spring 2011 Looks

It's March already?! Which means Spring is just around the corner ( I hope). Joe Fresh just released their Spring 2011 lookbook! (which btw, I always look forward to) Some very nice stuff for the whole family.

The looks are fun and playful. Lots of stripes and sequins. Nice pastel colours and Khakis!
( loving the whole khaki colour looks) What do you guys think? What's your favourite look?

I really like the whole mix of patterns. ie. stripes with plaid and pattern. It works!

American Idol Top 13!

Not sure if you guys are following, but Idol is one of the many realities shows I enjoy watching. It's actually their 10th season this year. New thing this time around - 2 new judges: Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez ( she's so pretty! : ) joins Randy. I don't mind them so far , Steven's fun to watch plus some great chemistry between him and Jenn.

The top 13 was just announced last night. I think the American people did pretty well. Definitely the most diverse group than past seasons, interms of their music style. Lot's of young/talented ones too.

My favourites that I will be rooting for are: Thia, Lauren and Stefano. What about you guys?

One thing I want to point out, not sure if you guys have noticed - is the microphone the contestants uses.
There's a red logo on it. ( see it? at the end of the microphone, in the pic? ) I think it's 'Beats by Dr.Dre' logo! I thought he only did headphones? ( btw, I want one of those - ibeats ones) But anyways, I just thought it was such a smart/great use of logo placement.

H&M TV Commercials

I just love these H&M TV commercials. They're only 15-20 seconds - so simple, cool and so fun to watch! I like how they split the screen into 3 sections, using 3 slightly different camera angles - a kinda cool affect. I think, actually, a smart technique since they are selling clothes, what better way then to show it off in different angles?!

FYI- the music used in the commercial is the song "Mannish Boy" by Muddy Waters, covered here by singer Erykah Badu.

A Solar-Powered Print Ad!

What a cool print ad! A print ad that promotes green energy by being solar-powered itself. In the magazine, you see a black and white sketch. But when you hold it up to the sunlight, it changes into full colour! And then text appears to complete the thought. It was created by BBR Saatchi & Saatchi in Tel Aviv for Israeli energy company Shikun & Binui Solaria. I have a feeling this work may end up winning some kind of advertising awards.

Just wanted to let you guys know that starting in March, I will be blogging in Chinese!! One of the reader who happen to visited my blog liked the kind of stuff I was writing about. She, who works for a chinese newspaper, contacted me and asked if I was interested to do some postings for this Chinese site. This site is all about today's trends, fashion news, shopping tips and deals.

I decided to give it a try. I figured it will be a good experience and good exposure for myself. Not only that, I will get to practice my chinese. As a Canadian born Chinese, I can fluently speak cantonese, however as for writing and reading, not 'too' fluent. But thanks to translation sites, and my friend's help, I will make it work : ) It will definitely be a challenge, but oh well, we'll see how it goes.

My Thoughts on Justin Beiber: Never Say Never

I guess I caught the 'Beiber Fever'. After all the hype around Justin's movie and the pretty good reviews it received, Rotten Tomatoes gave it 65%, I decided to check it out myself. Plus I got to support, he's Canadian ! : )

Justin, who's only 16 years old, was raised in a small town of Stratford, Ontario. And in a very short period of time, he has become one of the biggest young pop star = pretty incredible! The movie talks about how that all happened, from being discovered on U-tube, to having a sold out show at the Madison Square Garden Stadium in NYC.

Boy, he is one talented kid! It seems like everything he does, he's not just 'good', but great at it, without really having any professional training?! For examples, picking up and playing many different instruments, and playing basketball. I actually thinks Justin might have a long lasting career as a singer/performer.

The movie was very entertaining. It was very interesting to see all the behind the scene stuff. Justin is definitely one talented kid and hard working too! As for the movie being in 3D? I didn't think it was necessary- just a money grab. Another thing, I didn't even get those special Beiber purple 3D glasses?? lol

High Tea - Chinese Style

I recently went for dim sum at this place called Crown Prince Fine Dining & Banquet in North York.
Located on 3600 Victoria Park Ave., telephone: 416.490.8893. This dim sum place wasn't like any other, which was the main reason we wanted to check it out.

The main difference was the setting and decor of the restaurant. The decor is classy with fancy table settings, decorated tea pots and elegant tea cups. With large columns, and paintings on the wall, the decor is very Victorian-European inspired.

It offers many of the same dim sum selections as other places at $2.80 per dish (S, M or L), a special price before 11am. By the way, they don't push the carts around, you have to write down your order. The food and service was good. The main attraction for me was probably the interesting environment. I think it's worth going to check out - if you want to experience a some what "higher-end" Chinese restaurant.

My thoughts on Just Go With It

I really enjoyed Just Go With It, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. I thought it would probably be a silly romantic comedy movie (It's Adam Sandler) with a weak storyline. Plus the move review site, Rotten Tomatoes only gave it 18%. So, I wasn't expecting too much heading into the theatre, however I like Adam and Jennifer and wanted some laugh, so bad reviews aside, I went anyways.

It was surprisingly a pretty good movie! It was nice, sweet, and funny! The storyline wasn't too bad - quite entertaining. Many chuckles and 'aww' (as in sweet) moments throughout the movie. The chemistry between Adam and Jennifer was great. The two children actors who played Jennifer's on screen kids does a great job. They were both so fun to watch. And surprise - Nicole Kidman makes a guest appearance! 'Just Go See', Just Go With it = a fun time at the movies!

"Never Wasted" Shopping Bag

Many companies now a day are trying to be more environmentally friendly. One way for the retailers is to covert their plastic bags into paper ones. However the jeans company Lee went a step forward.

Lee created the "Never Wasted" shopping bag! It's not only a bag made of recycled paper, the bag can be used and reused in one way or another. Some for fun, some for function, and nothing goes into the trash. They made it fun and interactive. It's a game, a pencil holder, a calendar and a lot more!

I think retailers should really put more thought into their shopping bags. Why not make them nice, fun, attractive and reuse-able? Hello retailer?? It's pretty much free advertising when people carry them around. I like what Urban Outfitters does to their shopping bag, you can read and check them out here.

Great job Lee for creating a cool looking and most definitely a very creative shopping bag!! Now, where can I get one?

Diesel Spring/Summer 2011 Ad Campaign: Diesel Island

Diesel's newest ad campaign is called 'Diesel Island: Land of the Stupid, home of the Brave'. The previous campaign which I blogged about here, was all about 'Being Stupid', so I guess they are continuing with the same theme. A very interesting look and feel to the campaign. Nice photography and once again some very funny copy writing. I like the font choice used for 'Diesel Island'.

Looks like fun times being stranded on an island. What do you guys think of this campaign?

Banana Republic Spring 2011: Journey In Style

I'm not really a regular shopper or a big fan of Banana Republic. However this might change. Their new spring 2011 ad/marketing campaign titled " Journey In Style" really caught my attention. I really like the whole look and feel of the campaign: very beautiful looking, love the colours, clothes, models, relaxed mood and photography. I don't know, I just found this campaign makes Banana Republic more young, modern and full of style. Don't you think so?

A first for the brand, to engage customers and to bring the print campaign to life, they created a film trailer which will debute in select movie theatres and online. ( no worries, I have it here for you : )

I did a little more digging to find out more about this campaign. It was shot against the stunning backdrop of the Vasquez Rocks, one of Southern California's most famous geologic wonders. Some of the models are Angela Lindvall and Jamie Dornan. Lori Goldsten styled the campaign and the photographer was Peggy Sirota. Developed with AR NEW YORK, their ad agency.

Great job all around. I guess I might just have to pop in the store and check out their Spring line.

Winterlicious!

It's Winterlicious time: January 28 - February 10!! An annual event which happens in Toronto where many nice restaurants offer a fixed lunch/dinner menu at a discounted fixed price. It's a great opportunity to check out and experience them without spending too much. Can't go wrong with a 3 course lunch meal for 15 bucks!

I went to one for lunch with a bunch of my friends last week called the Big Daddy's Bourbon Street Bistro & Oyster Bar on King Street West in the Entertainment District. They served authentic Cajun cuisine.

The food was great (note: not a really picky eater). It was the company, who I went with that made it a fun outting : )

Life is a Special Occasion

I really like the new tag line Hallmark came up with, "Life is a Special Occasion". It is letting consumers know that Hallmark has products that can meet their needs every day of the year and not just all about the big occasions. I think it's a perfect line!

With this new tag line, comes with a new look and feel Hallmark is showing consumers this year. It's very fun and contemporary looking- which I'm really liking. Make sure to visit your nearest Hallmark cards store and check it out.

Not sure if you know, I do work as a designer for Hallmark. So, please keep me employ and always buy your greeting cards (and other gifts/products) from Hallmark!! : )

A side-note, for those Dollarama shoppers, some locations do carry Hallmark cards! Hallmark's bargain card line is called Sentimental Studio (make sure that's what is on the back of the card).

I know it's kinda hard to think about summer right now, especially when there's a snow storm coming our way bringing with about 30cm of snow. But let's just escape for a bit. Here are some looks from H&M's Summer 2011!

Memory Wall

One of my favourite Canadian Ad agency Rethink, yet again created a very cool ambient ad. It's for the Alzheimer's Society of BC's Annual Walk for Memories.

A 30-foot panel wall is covered with sticky notes (a symbols of memory) arranged to form the word 'Remember'. Each sticky notes carried a printed reminder to participant in the annual event. This interactive display can be picked apart by passerby, who are allowed to peel off Post-its, as a lasting reminder; symbolic of the memory loss experienced by Alzheimer's sufferers. Very Cool idea, eh?

Yorkdale's Expansion

Didn't it feel like Yorkdale just finished a big expansion? I guess they're not done yet. Yorkdale just announced that they will be doing a $220 million dollar expansion adding 145,000 square ft of new retail space. Expansion overview:

• 40 new retails!

(which they referred to as "first to market", I really want to know which retail. I already heard that they will be getting J.Crew.)

• new third level food court, doubling the seating capacity

• new restaurants

• over 800 new underground parking spaces

Seeing how being green is so popular, Yorkdale will be including that into their expansion. The new food court will reduce waste by 85% with resusable plates and cutlery. Also they will be adding a 65,000 square foot green roof to reduce atmospheric heating.

Construction has already begun and will be expected to finish in late 2012. I'm really looking forward to seeing it when it's all finish --- Very exciting!! : )
